Okay, I know that sounds repetitive, but hang on 'til I'm finished.
I dunno about you guys, but after a while of viewing other people's art, my mind falls into a rut and I start thinking that art is about talent or detail or effort. And it can be; art should often have those aspects.
But a few times I've gotten into arguments with non-art-fans. They don't see the point of art, especially abstract things, and to tell the truth, I often don't get those either.
So, cut to the scene where I'm drawing leaves and acorns. Things I usually overlook when viewing these objects suddenly become vital to the picture: veins, miniature discolorations, lines of texture, and bumps that don't follow any apparent order at all. It makes you think about all the tiny details of the world that we pass over every day. Not just the one leaf I'm drawing has that minute detail; every single leaf in the world is crammed with detail and character! Almost anything you look at closely will reveal another aspect that you didn't notice before.
So now I think that art is really about learning to look at the world in a different way. Learning to see the world from multiple perspectives.
And when an artist displays what they've learned, not everyone who sees it will be able to see the world the way the artist did. In the words of Bill Watterson, "I don't think anyone sees the world in exactly the same way."
Picasso sometimes used smoke to draw in the air, right? Those probably didn't take long to make, but while drawing the subject in the air, Picasso was probably learning how to reduce an image to the single line of its essentials. You probably can't dissect it for symbols, because it was a journey of discovery for the artist himself.
So yes, I guess I've been thinking about art. I hate arguing, but you don't have to agree with me at all. Because you know, we're all still learning to see the world in different ways.

Romans 8:28 (New King James Version) 28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. I love Jesus Christ. He died for you and me. He loves you so that means I love you too.
